About The Song
Ray Price scored another major country hit in the fall of 1968 with “She Wears My Ring,” which served as both the title track and lead single from his album of the same name. Released on Columbia Records in August 1968, the single climbed to number six on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The full album followed in December 1968 and entered the country albums chart in early January 1969, peaking at number six and spending 21 weeks on the list. Produced by Don Law with arrangements by Ray Ellis, the recording reflected Price’s ongoing embrace of the smoother Nashville Sound that had defined much of his work since the early 1960s.
The song was written by the husband-and-wife team of Boudleaux and Felice Bryant, one of Nashville’s most successful songwriting partnerships. The Bryants, already famous for hits with the Everly Brothers and countless other artists, crafted English lyrics around a melody that traced back more than a century to the Mexican classic “La Golondrina,” composed by Narciso Serradell Sevilla in 1862. That original piece told the story of a migrating swallow longing for home, but the Bryants transformed the tune into a straightforward celebration of romantic commitment. Earlier versions had appeared by Jimmy Bell in 1960 and Roy Orbison in 1962, while British singer Solomon King took the song into the UK charts in 1967.
By the time Price recorded the track, he had largely moved away from the raw honky-tonk shuffle that defined his 1950s breakthrough with songs like “Crazy Arms.” Sessions took place in Nashville studios with top session players, including guitarist Grady Martin and backing vocals from the Jordanaires. The polished production, complete with strings and a warm, orchestral touch, suited Price’s distinctive baritone perfectly and helped the record connect with a broader audience still loyal to traditional country themes.
The lyrics portray a man’s deep pride in his relationship, using the simple image of a wedding ring to express eternal devotion. “She wears my ring to show the world that she belongs to me / She wears my ring to show the world she’s mine eternally,” Price sings, describing the act of placing the ring on her finger as a public declaration of love “as deep as the ocean.” Unlike many of his earlier heartbreak ballads, this track offers a rare note of contentment and certainty, turning an everyday symbol of marriage into something quietly profound.
The album itself mixed the title cut with contemporary covers such as “Little Green Apples,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” and “Welcome to My World,” showcasing Price’s ability to interpret a wide range of material while staying rooted in country. It marked another commercial success during a transitional period when many veteran artists struggled against the rising influence of younger, more rock-oriented country acts. Price, then in his early forties, continued to draw on the lessons he had learned from mentors like Hank Williams and the songwriters who passed through his Cherokee Cowboys band, including a young Willie Nelson.
Throughout the late 1960s, Price demonstrated a consistent knack for choosing strong songs that fit his evolving style without abandoning the emotional directness that had made him a star. “She Wears My Ring” stands as a clear example of how the Bryant team’s craftsmanship and Price’s interpretive skill could turn an old melody into a fresh country standard. The track remains a reminder of his versatility during an era when country music balanced tradition with the growing sophistication of the Nashville Sound.
Even decades later, the song illustrates the enduring appeal of straightforward storytelling about love and loyalty, delivered by one of country music’s most respected voices. It was one of several solid hits that kept Ray Price relevant well into the 1970s and beyond.

Lyric
She wears my ring to show the world that she belongs to me
She wears my ring to show the world she’s mine eternally
With love and care, I placed it on her finger
To show my love for all the world to see
This tiny ring is a token of tender devotion
An endless pool of love that’s as deep as the ocean
She swears to wear it with eternal devotion
That’s why I sing because she wears my ring
This tiny ring is a token of tender devotion
An endless pool of love that’s as deep as the ocean
She swears to wear it with eternal devotion
That’s why I sing because she wears my ring
That’s why I sing because she wears my ring
